Nancy Evans will provide Patrick with posters for the Residential Computer Centers. Change to alias to occur this summer Betsy shared that she is a member of the TUC E-mail Alias subcommittee (as representative from ACOC). One of the items this group will need to address is how to communicate to students (both new and returning) is the adoption of aliases. Student Portion of IUP Telephone Directory Need for student information At the TUC email alias subcommittee meeting on February 7, 2003, a discussion on where to place alias information ensued. Part of that discussion involved listing the alias in the hard copy of the IUP telephone directory with the student listing. At the ACOC meeting on February 20, 2003 further discussion on this led to the question as to whether the student information in the hard copy telephone directory is still needed since it is often times incomplete as well as inaccurate due to students either not providing information or moving. Since the directory does not arrive on campus until the end of October, the campus has functioned for approximately of the fall semester without directory. LDAP provides directory information and since it is updated nightly, this is the most accurate/up to date information the university has. ACOC members are checking with their constituencies to assess whether it is necessary to continue to print the student directory information in the hard copy telephone directory. Office information and employee information would still continue to be printed even if a decision was made not to print the student portion of the telephone directory. LDAP change to include students who have been registered/enrolled during previous 2 semesters: At the ACOC meeting on 2/20/2003, a decision was made to place in LDAP, not only the current semester directory information, but also directory information for students who were enrolled in either of the previous two semesters. Joseph believes this change supports discontinuance of the hard copy of the student information in the IUP telephone directory. Updates RESNET Patrick McDevitt distributed an updated version of the brochure he shared at the last meeting. A brief discussion on the recent articles in the PENN regarding internet speed, packet-shaping software, and the amount of bandwidth available ensued. Updates Student Technology Services Nancy Evans reported that during the fall 2002 semester the Student Helpdesk handled 872 calls (65 of the 872 contacts were actually handled by the ATS help desk). The most frequent contacts were related to passwords (297), followed by email (130), network (116) and hardware (114). Nancy indicated student contacts with the helpdesk have increased over last year. Nancy also described some of the projects currently being worked on in Student Technology Services. This includes identifying web pages that will need to be updated for alias information, network account changes; researching various new products; developing position descriptions for possible internships. Nancy Evans and Patrick McDevitt will be meeting with Sherry Kuckuck next week to discuss the summer parent orientation program and their presentation to parents of new students during June and July. Membership: Joseph reported that Louis Tucker would be the graduate student representative on the Student Computing Team and ACPAC replacing Adam Primi. Joseph will be meeting with Tucker prior to the next Student Computing Team meeting to update him on the activities of the Student Computing Team. The next meeting of the Student Computing Team is scheduled for Monday, March 24 at 1:30 p.m. in 202 Clark Hall. ;Sn)>nv w x | @PMr6CJOJQJ^JaJ5CJOJQJ^JaJCJOJQJ^JaJ):;n)*mnw x >?@KLM8^8 & Fh^h & F$a$ & Fh^h 1h/ =!"#$% i8@8 NormalCJ_HaJmH sH tH <A@< Default Paragraph Font):;n)*mnwx> ? @ K L M 00000000 00 00 000 00 00 000 000 00 00000 X_[ c 2:W^uz, 4 + F F xezbajosephjrmcferr Z:\acpac\student-at-min-2-24.doc :.ܝL^`o(.^`o(. pLp^p`LhH. @ @ ^@ `hH. ^`hH.
