Mark E. Correia has been selected as dean of the College of Health and Human Services. Correia will arrive at IUP on June 1 from San Jos茅 State University, where he chairs the department of justice studies, leads social media and technology efforts in the College of Applied Sciences and Arts, and recently served as the executive director of the Center for Justice Research, Policy and Training.
Communications Media students led by Professor Luis Almeida won a top prize for their video game proposal at the Education Without Borders conference in Dubai, March 26鈥�28. The IUP proposal鈥攆or an educational video game called 鈥淗ERO 1鈥� to teach the English language and American culture to Arab students鈥攚as one of only 32 papers the EWB organizers selected for conference presentation out of approximately 3,600 submissions worldwide. Ruth Podbielski came to IUP in 1955 and served in many roles, leading up聽to director of athletics for the women鈥檚 intercollegiate program, a position she retired from in 1987.聽She was instrumental in the university鈥檚 adding 10 varsity sports, enabling thousands of women to聽take advantage of opportunities to compete in a varsity athletic program.

The History Department will host this year鈥檚 National History Day regional competition on Friday,聽March 8, in the Hadley Union Building. About 200 high school and middle school students from the Indiana聽area will display their research for IUP faculty and student judges. The University Museum will host two exhibitions from February 2 through March 15: 鈥淚n Sisterhood: The Women鈥檚 Movement in Pittsburgh鈥� and 鈥淏ridge Builders." The Cyber Catch Scholarship Program will award 40 scholarships to IUP students who haven't decided on a major but show an interest in computer science with a concentration in information assurance. It also will award funds to 16 students transferring from area community colleges into the Information Assurance Program.
